A distinct religious context
Espiritismo and Santería are not the same religious system. Espiritismo concerns relationships with spirits and spiritual development in identifiable religious currents. Lucumí has its own Orisha traditions, religious offices and ritual relationships. Participation in one does not automatically establish participation or authority in the other.
History without a single origin story
Allan Kardec's nineteenth-century Spiritist writings provide an important textual reference. Caribbean communities developed their own forms of religious life; reading Kardec alone does not explain all Cuban or Puerto Rican practice. Cuban Espiritismo, Espiritismo Cruzado and espiritismo de cordón should not be treated as interchangeable names.
The research dossier identifies scholarship on Cuban mediumship and on Cuba and Puerto Rico, but several records are publisher descriptions rather than full-text readings. This introduction therefore does not assign an exact arrival date, a single founder of the bóveda or one exclusive genealogy to every community.
What development asks of a learner
Prayer, reflection, ethical conduct and accountable relationships can all be part of a practitioner's understanding of development. Describing that understanding does not prove a spiritual explanation for a particular experience. Dreams and impressions need context, and another person's certainty does not remove your right to question or decline.
From Spiritual Evolution — Reading a practitioner’s synthesis · pp.8,113,298
Miller recounts reading Kardec in his introduction, describes daily and weekly bóveda devotion on p.113, and includes a contemporary prayer to the spiritual court on p.298. Those passages show how Espiritismo informs his personal framework. They do not establish that every Spiritist current or Lucumí house follows the same practice.
