A living religious community
Lucumí, or Regla de Ocha, developed in Cuba through African antecedents and the conditions of diaspora. It is not adequately described as unchanged Yoruba religion transported intact. Its religious life includes Orisha, ancestry, elders, houses, learning and obligations carried in relationships.
Use the library as a connected whole
The Orisha library introduces divine relationships; the Odù atlas and Diloggún material explain public divination concepts; Patakí carry teaching stories; the glossary clarifies terms. Reading across these formats can deepen understanding, but none of them confers divinatory authority.
Ocha and Ifá have related but distinct forms of religious authority. Ilé refers to the house context in which a person may learn and belong. An aleyo is not made a priest by completing a website course. Ask what a title or responsibility means in the community being discussed.
Character is lived between ceremonies
How people handle promises, money, consent, disagreement and confidentiality matters. Religious authority should be accountable to actual relationships and responsibilities. Learn slowly enough to understand what you are accepting, including what continues after an initiation.
