What prayer can mean
Prayer can be petition, gratitude, remembrance or an expression of relationship with the divine and the dead. Its addressee and meaning depend on the religious setting. A Spiritist prayer, a Christian devotional form and an invocation taught within a Lucumí house should not be presented as the same kind of text.
You may pray in ordinary language. A sincere request does not need invented Lucumí words or a claim of antiquity. In an established religious relationship, learn the appropriate forms and permissions from the people responsible for teaching you.
Choose words with a clear origin
This collection reproduces eleven prayers by Keith Lawrence Miller from Spiritual Evolution, with their original titles, exact wording and page references. These are contemporary prayers in his cross-traditional framework. Inherited prayers and third-party translations remain outside the Finder where their particular wording, attribution or publication rights are unresolved.
Let prayer accompany action
After praying, consider a practical next step: ask for support, repair a mistake, rest, prepare for a conversation or thank someone. Difficulty after prayer is not proof of personal failure. No prayer on this site guarantees money, health, safety or a particular response from another person.
From Spiritual Evolution — Prayer and participation · pp.73–76
Miller tells the story of encountering prayer through Psalm 23 and describes ritual as embodied prayer. His electrical-circuit and car-engine comparisons emphasize participation: the reader has a part to play. These are the author’s spiritual analogies and testimony, not measurements of religious efficacy.
