Module 12 of 12

Preparing to Receive Elekes

What elekes mean, what to ask, how to prepare, and why commitment matters.

Meaning before acquisition

Elekes are consecrated necklaces received within religious relationship. They are not fashion accessories, generic amulets, or a do-it-yourself project. Their public meaning includes relationship, care, identity, responsibility, and connection to Orisha and house.

Before receiving them, ask who will guide you, what the ceremony means in that house, what preparation is expected, what ongoing responsibilities follow, what the total cost covers, and whom to contact afterward.

Readiness is relational

Do not rush because of fear, social pressure, or the desire for status. Readiness includes trust, informed consent, clear expectations, realistic finances, respect for sacred privacy, and willingness to remain teachable.

Completing this module demonstrates educational preparation only. It does not mean that a person is religiously eligible, initiated, authorized, or attached to an ilé.
